MORWELL Cougars proved their top two credentials in the Latrobe Valley Baseball Association with an 11-0 win over Sale Rangers on Sunday.
Continuous light rain and an icy breeze made it uncomfortable for all players.
Ricky Collins pitched a brilliant game for Cougars with 14 strikeouts for the day, resulting in the first no-hitter he has achieved in his 17 year baseball career.
Collins attributed the success to a good partnership with catcher Chris Cumming.
Cougars got off to a good start by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning after shutting out Rangers in the top.
Rangers' pitcher Will Hector shut Cougars out in the second inning but they came back with another three in the third.
Hector continued to pitch well, with Cougars again shut out in the fourth.
But he began to tire in the fifth forcing a pitching change, putting Ben Laux on the mound. This could not stop Cougars scoring another six runs in the inning, although Laux prevented them from scoring in the last inning.
Best Cougars: Collins, Cumming, Shaun Fahy and Joel Anderson. Best Rangers: Hector, Laux, Chris Cox and Andrew Miendorf.
The Moe/Newborough Dodgers versus Traralgon Redsox results were not available so ladders have not been calculated.
Next week Traralgon Redsox travel to Morwell to meet the Cougars while Churchill Braves travel to Sale to take on Rangers.
