Clowning around at the circus

21/04/2008 2:22:15 PM
ONE of Australia's oldest circus acts has begun to spread magic and excitement around the Latrobe Valley.

The Perry Brothers Circus has been travelling around Australia for 160 years and has produced seven generations of circus performers.

Tightwire performers, clowns, fire-baton twirlers and jugglers, performing ponies, whipcracking and a `rolabola' performance are just some of the acts in Perry Brothers' repertoire.

Perry Brothers ring performer Yasmin Brophy said visitors to the circus would see elephants, but they had `retired' from the Big Top.

"It's (the circus) one of the last things that are fully family (oriented) and affordable," Ms Brophy said.

The circus performed at the weekend and will be on again from Friday to Sunday at the Latrobe City Sports Club, Crinigan Road, Morwell.

Friday performances will start at 7pm, with two performances on Saturday at 2pm and 7pm and Sunday at 11am.
